Things to bring

  • Spending money. You will need to pay for your meals. Housing is provided free.
  • Passport, certified copy of birth certificate or voter registration card. The documents are needed for identification and proof of citizenship when crossing into Mexico. The documents also will be needed to obtain a Mexican permit to tour a maquiladora, or twin plant, in Mexico. The permit costs $17.
  • Bath towels (bed linens are provided)
  • Hiking boots, older clothes and long pants for field trips.
  • Hats, caps, sunglasses, sunscreen or sunblock lotion.
  • Car. STEER transports students from their lodging to the day's activities. However some students prefer to have their own vehicle for evening and weekend use.
