How to apply Most applying students need to follow these steps. Only students enrolled in U.S. colleges or universities are eligible. There are different procedures to follow if you are a fourth-year U.S. medical student, or if you are enrolled at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Complete the Environmental Medicine/Border Health Application for Elective.

Complete the Visiting Student Immunization Record and have it certified by a doctor or nurse.
Fill out all blanks.

Provide proof that you have personal health insurance, and obtain a letter from your college or university stating that you are:
- In good academic standing.
- Approved to take the elective.
- Covered by professional liability insurance.
- In good academic standing.
